Interview with a Thai Student

Vichol Limpattanachart is a young Thai student webmaster I met at Nation Junior Magazine when I went to pick up the prize for Website Designer. He got a special prize called "Judges Favourite". In my eyes, he is a good, smart boy. He learns very quick and seems to like computers a lot. I invited him to my school so I could teach him some new things. His English is very good. Even though we are both Thai, he kept speaking in English to me!

PANRIT: What is your name?

VICHOL: My name is Vichol Limpattanachart.

PANRIT: How old are you?

VICHOL: I am ten years old.

PANRIT: What do you like to do in your freetime?

VICHOL: I like to play computer and badminton.

PANRIT: What is your school's name?

VICHOL: My school's name is Our Lady of Perpetual Help School.

PANRIT: What is different between your school and a normal Thai school?

VICHOL: My school has 2 sections: English program and Thai program. English program has all subjects in English except Thai and Social studies.

PANRIT: How many students in your class and how many teachers?

VICHOL: We have 22 students and 2 teachers.

PANRIT: Can all of your friends speak good English like you?

VICHOL: Some of them can but not all of them.

PANRIT: How long have you been learning English?

VICHOL: 4 years.

PANRIT: Is it difficult?

VICHOL: Sometimes it was difficult but sometimes not.

PANRIT: What do you find difficult?

VICHOL: I think grammar and comprehension.

PANRIT: Do you think in English or dream in English?

VICHOL: I sometimes think in English but dream in Thai.

PANRIT: Do you have a computer at home?

VICHOL: Yes, I have.

PANRIT: Do you take a special lesson at the weekend?

VICHOL: I have taken it on Saturdays and Sundays. They are swimming and piano.

PANRIT: What about special computer lesson?

VICHOL: Yes, at Chulalongkorn for four weeks.

PANRIT: How do you learn computer?

VICHOL: I started the easiest one first and then a little harder and harder.

PANRIT: Who taught you computer?

VICHOL: Sometimes my father and sometimes my teacher.

PANRIT: Do you learn computer at school?

VICHOL: Yes, but it is too easy for me.

PANRIT: How long have you been doing the web page?

VICHOL: I have been doing it for 2 years.

PANRIT: Did you learn all by yourself?


PANRIT: Which program do you use?

VICHOL: Frontpage, Image Composer, Abode Photoshop and Ulead Gif Animator.

PANRIT: Did you do it alone?


PANRIT: Do you do your homepage in English or Thai?

VICHOL: In English.

PANRIT: Which one do you like most, in Thai or English?

VICHOL: In English because most of the people around the world can read English.

PANRIT: What do you want to be in the future?

VICHOL: Computer Programmer.
